Solid wood table: a wise investment

Who doesn't dream of a bright dining room dominated by a majestic solid wood table?

More than ever, Scandinavian, country or industrial chic inspired furniture represents a smart investment all around.

Stylish, durable and eco-friendly, solid wood is making its way into your dining room! Discover the main advantages of choosing a solid wood table rather than those made of particleboard or MDF with wood veneer.

An elegant and authentic style that attracts all eyes

A solid wood dining table is the centerpiece of your dining room, adding character and authenticity to your interior décor. By selecting a wood species that perfectly complements the other elements in the room, you'll add that extra touch of soul that will never fail to impress your guests!

A contemporary or antique-style solid wood kitchen table creates a calm, serene, and welcoming atmosphere. Wood is a noble material with a unique charm thanks to its color and grain. As a result, your table will instantly become the focal point of your dining room!

As proof, no two solid wood tables will ever be 100% identical due to the natural variation in wood. Furthermore, wood is a bit like a fine wine: it continues to improve with age and develops beautifully.

Wood is a bit like a good wine: it continues to improve over the years and it ages well.

The unbeatable durability of a solid wood table

One of the advantages of solid wood furniture is undoubtedly its durability. Solid wood is a material that is relatively resistant to humidity and temperature changes—a crucial characteristic given our Canadian winters!

Pro tip: Ask the furniture manufacturer about wood grading and classification. The more knots a piece of wood has, the lower its quality and grade, and the greater the chance of defects appearing over time. Conversely, the more straight and free of defects a piece of wood has, the better its grade, quality, and durability.

Manufacturing a solid wood table at Brustique

At Brustique, you'll find solid wood dining tables made entirely from Quebec wood, classified as "Select" or "Prime," which are the highest grades on the wood quality scale. We work with four wood species: natural maple or sugar maple, ambrosia maple, which offers a variety of colors, white oak, a very hard wood with a golden and linear grain, and black walnut, one of the finest solid wood species.

Our local lumber suppliers are accredited by the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) and meticulously adhere to the standards for lumber classification, grading, and drying. This is why all the products that leave our workshop in Montreal are resistant to humidity and temperature fluctuations.

Contrary to popular belief, solid wood can be very resistant to scratches and wear and tear if you follow our care instructions . All our wood species, and sugar maple in particular, offer excellent durability, which we enhance with appropriate finishing products. Using placemats and coasters will also help prolong the life of your solid wood table.

A wooden table: a sensible environmental choice

Nowadays, eco-friendly products are increasingly sought after, and the furniture industry is no exception! The use of wood, a natural and renewable resource, allows for the creation of durable and timeless furniture that will stand the test of time with style.

At Brustique, we are committed to a 100% Quebec-made manufacturing process, from selecting local wood species to designing and manufacturing our products right here in our workshop in Montreal. This is how we limit import costs and CO₂ emissions, while also supporting local employment and ensuring the quality of our solid wood tabletops.

Furthermore, we believe it is essential to raise awareness among the next generation about everything related to climate, ecology, the environment, and eco-citizenship. Therefore, we donate a portion of our profits to Le Semoir to organize learning workshops for young people in our schools. It's a concrete way to give back to the forest that surrounded our childhood neighborhood and was our playground!

Solid wood: a return to basics

In a world of overconsumption where everything moves very fast, we are convinced that we need to take the time to stop for a moment. To pause and truly reflect on our needs and the principles that are important to us.

The dining room is a special place to gather with family after a busy day, or to host family and friends for a delicious meal. How much time do we spend together at the table? Or rather, what is the value of this time shared with those we love?

It is in this spirit that we wish to encourage people around us to (re)think the choice of their kitchen table or wooden dining table so that it is up to the task of all those small and big moments that mark our daily lives, year after year.

By Maude Lambert-Bonin, contributing writer for Brustique

The wooden kitchen or dining room table must be up to the task of witnessing all those small and big moments that mark our daily lives.
